Gazebos are great. I especially like relaxing under mine, in the tub, whilst it's raining :)

Wooden gazebos are versatile and can be used to store garden implements it is true, but for true splendor think about a wrought iron gazebo. I replaced my wooden one last year with an inexpensive wrought iron version and it has transformed my garden. It has made me reconsider the planting to fit its style and that has to be a good thing!
