Organic Gardening Resources

Organic gardening is a type of gardening in which gardeners focus their energies into increasing the natural health of their soil, choosing appropriate plant varieties, and working with nature to produce a healthy and productive garden, without resorting to chemicals.

This page lists a range of organic gardening resources which I hope you will find useful.

I have a book available, Organic Gardening for Beginners, which can be downloaded now.

Organic gardeners don’t use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on their plants. But there is much more to gardening organically than just avoiding chemicals. When you garden organically, your garden becomes part of a whole system within nature that starts with the soil and includes the water supply, people, wildlife and even insects.

Organic gardeners strive to work in harmony with natural systems and to minimize and continually replenish any resources the garden consumes. Recycling plays a big part in organic gardening. Organic gardeners make use of animal waste, kitchen scraps, and vegetable waste to mulch and to create compost.

They make use of common household items such as vinegar and soap to prevent pests and weeds. Organic growers rely on developing a healthy, fertile soil and growing a mixture of plants. Genetically modified (GM) crops and ingredients are not allowed under organic standards.

Organic gardening is the merging of plants and soil allowing the earth to naturally produce what it was made to do. The plants and the soil work together to provide food and nourishment not only to humans but to animals and organisms as well.

Organic gardening is actually pretty simple and can be very satisfying.
