Orchid Care Experience

If you have bought or are thinking about buying your first orchid then be careful. It only takes one orchid, one orchid to instill a passion. You won’t ever be able to shake this passion, it will be with you for ever. But having the passion is not sufficient to ensure the survival of your orchid. You need to know a little about orchid care.

A lot of beginners are a bit daunted by orchid care. That is understandable. You have a beautiful living thing that you have responsibility for. You want to do your best for it but you know that if you make a mistake then it might die. Yes, I have more bad news. Orchid care is more of an art than a science. But as with any art you will become better over time.

I want to introduce you to some of the key concepts of orchid care. The first thing that a lot of people get wrong is the watering schedule. One of the main reasons they die is because people water them too much. You shouldn’t really be watering them more than once a week. If you are unsure whether they need to be watered then they probably don’t.

The next thing to look out for is the temperature. Orchids originated from a tropical climate so many prefer temperatures that are warmer. Think about this if your orchids are outside. You should bring them into the house at night if it is going to be extremely cold. If you are keeping them inside your house then you should have no worries.

Orchids love lots of light. This is another bit of orchid care that you will have to master. You should aim to leave your orchid in a position that gets a lot of light. However, be careful not to leave them in direct sunlight for too long otherwise this will harm them.

I would urge anyone to own an orchid. Yes orchid care can be a bit tricky when you start but it won’t take long for you to master it.
