Make Your Yard Colorful With Annuals

One of the easiest ways to add gorgeous curb appeal to your home is to plant colorful annual garden flowers. You can plant them along your walkway, around the front porch, or as borders along the front of your house too. They also look fantastic grouped around mailboxes, or simply added to interesting and unique garden containers scattered throughout your yard.

Annual flowers can often be purchased in full or partial bloom at most local home improvement stores, nurseries, and discount shopping garden centers. Buying annuals which are just starting to bloom allows you to see what colors the flowers are. This means you can color coordinate your entire arrangement if you’d like.

Quite possibly my most favorite to grow is Purple Verbena garden flowers. Not only are these a gorgeous color, but they’re drought resistant and hold up very well in the hot southwestern desert areas of the United States.

Another of my favorite annual flowers to plant is called a Vinca. These thrive very well for me in the direct, hot sunlight of my desert southwestern home and with just the slightest bit of care they seem to bloom contiuously for months on end.

Vinca garden flowers come in a wide variety of colors too. Many are solid colored but you’ll find several varieties which have mixed and blended color combinations too. I love planting these along the edge of my lawn next to the sidewalk, or on either side of the walkway up to my front door.

Pansies are another excellent annual flower to plant for color and curb appeal. These are quite popular across the united states, because they’re showy and colorful from the moment you plant them in the ground.

I personally haven’t had as much luck with Pansies as I have with Vincas though. The Pansey flowers wilt easier in hot and direct sun, plus they don’t seem to bloom nearly as long for me. With the Vinca flowers, as long as I remove the dead flower heads regularly they’ll continue putting out more blooms.

Both of these flowers are small enough to continue looking perky throughout the spring and summer, plus they don’t spread themselves around either. This is what makes them ideal to use for improving the curb appeal of your home because they stay neat and colorful all season long.

If you love lots of color, then select a wide variety of Pansies and Vincas to plant around your home. Mix up all the colors and plant them into the ground, in window flower boxes, or into porch and patio containers to create a happy and appealing look outside your home quickly.

You can also use these annuals to create a color coordinated effect in your yard and gardens too. If for example, your home has red accents on the exterior you might decide you’d like to have red and white flowers outside to enhance that look. The same techniques can be used to bring out special details from a favorite yard ornament, your hand painted mailbox, or any other outdoor feature you’d like to enhance with additional color.

No matter how you decide to do it, adding the bright gorgeous colors of annual flowers outside will make an amazing difference to the look of your home.
