How to Build A Shed
If a person has many belongings and he does not have enough room in his house to store them, then when is he to do. This question can be answered with the help of an outdoor storage shed.
To build a shed is not a very difficult job. A person has to keep in mind various points in order to build a shed.
The first step you need to do is to go to the building department and check your local laws and see if you need a building permit. If you do need one it is a good idea to go ahead and fill out the paper work and begin the permit process. If you do need a permit often times it is required to submit plans. It is important to have plans any way so submitting them doesnt really require any extra work.
Size of the shed depends upon the amount of goods one wishes to store in it. The first job is to make the siding of the shed. The three most common and popular siding used for building the shed are vinyl siding, wood siding and steel siding. The types of siding that are long lasting are vinyl, cedar and metal types of siding. Vinyl siding is inexpensive and durable. Wooden sheds will require vinyl siding as it will last and be protected against the elements. Vinyl siding is also preferred when one is looking for low maintenance siding.
When looking for the wood for building the shed, wood with natural resin is recommended so that it doesnt rot. Wood is also a natural material and so a wooden shed does not look out of place in a garden like a metal shed would. Wood can also be easily painted. Any piece of firewood over 8 inches in diameter should be split. Over 50% of the weight in fresh cut wood is moisture.
Once the floor is in place firmly, start preparing the side walls. First, form a frame with equidistant pine studs. Form a desired shape with the studs, like rectangular or square. Both the sides of the studs are now to be pinned by the lumber sliding board. Form all the side walls in similar way. Raise the walls on all the sides of the floor and nail them with 12 d nails, firmly. The front side wall should be cut and fixed with a door at the appropriately desired place.
Next, form trusses for roof. With the help of the gussets, nail the rafters where they are to be joined and form the desired shape. The shape can be a simple flat one, or a raised arch-like or a raised triangular form. Place the trusses on the studs of the side walls and nail them firmly. Place the plywood pieces cut long and covering the roof, edge to edge. Nail them and on top of these, place the sliding board and nail it firmly. This forms your shed roof. Choose the right paint for the walls and frames and shingles to cover the roof. Use good adhesive to stick the shingles to the roof; probably an all-season adhesive, if available.
Some people who have sheds feel that their belongings are prone to get stolen as they are kept out in the open. This can be solved by placing a padlock on the door. Once the shed is built, one can all his/her large items such as lawn mowers, bikes, and tools.
