Flower Gardens and Container Gardening

Sometimes space limitations make it necessary to adjust your gardening plans. Container gardening can be a great option in these situations. All you really need are some containers for your new garden, some suitable soil, and your favorite flowers,

Many people living in apartments love their container gardens because they are the only way they have to express their love of flowers. Even if you own huge tracts of land though, container gardening can be used to liven up dark corners where there is no soil. Container gardening also gives you the flexibility to move things around wherever you like them.

Using containers for your plants allows you great flexibility in your flower choices. Plants that are picky about the soil they will live in can be catered to on a small scale instead of amending an entire area of ground. If you feel like putting a cactus next to plants that prefer a different kind of soil, it is no problem at all.

Containers for your garden can generally be had dirt cheap if you look around. A great place to check is garage sales. People who are clearing out space will often give you a great deal just to get things moved along.

Sometimes I like to grow my flowers in very non-traditional containers just for fun. They have never seemed to mind it at all. Give it a try for something different.

I don’t use soil from the ground in my containers because we have a lot of clay in our area. Pretty much any decent potting soil will do fine unless your flowers have specific needs. I’ve always mixed the soil with some peat moss and vermiculite and it works great.

You can grow a lot more than flowers in your container garden. Small varieties of tomato plant have done well for me in five gallon buckets. Some people grow all sorts of veggies and fruits in container gardens. Use your imagination and make sure the container is big enough for the mature plant.

Container gardening is a wonderful way to beautify areas that are not suited to a full garden. Containers can be found in many shapes and sizes to meet your needs as well. With the ability to mix and match container placements, you can give your container garden a new look every day.
