Landscaping your garden is a very stress relieving activity most especially when you are really fond of the outdoors. It is possible to create anything that you want for your garden. The use of stones is a normal thing to do to accentuate and add ambiance to the garden. This page will help you to know some tips in choosing the perfect stone for your landscaping needs.

First, consider if you want to go for natural or manufactured stone. People can go for both but then the natural stones are going to have colors that will last longer. Natural stones can be hard to work with due to their heavy weight though. For manufactured stones they have a lighter weight which makes them easier to handle. This is why house owners use this for indoor landscape designs.

Next, better decide if you are going to go for uncut or cut stones. You can actually go for uncut stones for their natural and raw dimensions that can accentuate your garden. It is recommended that you use natural and uncut stones for your foot paths. This will render your foot path more natural looking. It is best to go for natural uncut or manufactured cut or uncut stones for table tops or wall accents.

And last but not least, make sure that you know which stones to use. You can use stones to help improve the look of your garden by using it as a path for your yard. You will have to choose natural stones if you are going to just use them for accents to maximize the natural cut and color of the stone. If you are going to use them to create the fountain then it is best to go for the manufactured ones so you can have control on the shape that you want for each stone.

These are but some of the things you can utilize for your landscaped stones. It would be a good idea if you can know what the stones are for so that you will be able to maximize it fully. It would be to your advantage to ensure that the stones fit. Make sure that you follow these considerations so you will have a beautifully landscaped garden.

Bothering to consider companion planting when planning your garden can pay in a stunning, healthy harvest. By planting certain mixes of vegetables, fruits and annuals cleverly, you may have a productive garden that helps to maintain and protect itself. The advantages of <a href="http://www.1stoporganicgardening.com/cp1.htm"target='_blank' class="extlink">companion planting range from keeping insects at bay to helping to provide essential nutrient elements to other nearby plants.

Using certain plants in combination with each other with the aim of benefiting the garden isn’t a new idea. This strategy of gardening has been used for years and passed down thru generations. Alliums, or onions, for instance, are known to help fruit trees, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and broccoli by warding off pests who detest the scent of these bulbs. Planting basil among tomato plants can improve the flavor of your tomatoes as the fruit soaks up a bit of the basil’s scent and taste!

The soil by of the garden can be enriched by planting crops such as beans, which provide the essential element of nitrogen and beets, which are loaded with magnesium and pass this mineral on to the soil. Planting crops like these can decrease the quantity of fertilizer you must add to your soil to maintain its productivity.

Planting some annuals here and there in your plant garden can harvest enormous rewards as well. They not only provide a bright show of color for 1-3 seasons, but can help rid your garden of many pests without the utilisation of oppressive chemicals. Use marigolds, for example, to deter pests like aphids, nematodes, cabbage loopers, Mexican bean beetles and cabbage worms.

Many people have been planting crops with the intention of one crop benefiting the other for several years. Widely thought to be a valuable tool in eco-friendly gardening, this technique not only assists in reducing reliance on chemical-based fertilizers and pest elimination, it adds beauty and colour to any garden.

Andreah Pastor has been planning and planting gardens for over 30 years. She’s employed with her local community to teach <a href="http://www.1stoporganicgardening.com/getstart.htm"target='_blank' class="extlink">beginners gardening, like planning their gardens, companion planting options and <a href="http://www.1stoporganicgardening.com/blog/"target='_blank' class="extlink">grow organic food techniques.

Are you exasperated that your neighbor always seems to have a greener, fuller grass than yours? If so read on, this article will help you achieve a beautiful, healthy lawn in virtually no time. Below are pointers on how to go about realizing your dream.

Fertilizing

You've got to fertilize. Fertilizing your yard will do 1 or 2 things 1) it'll make it greener, 2) will make it grow and 3) will cause new seed to sprout. Many people are baffled about how frequently to fertilize; a good rule is to apply fertilizer at least four times a year. Each 60 days, first in the spring 30 days before the growing season then late summer, late fall and then during the winter months. Lastly, don’t apply to much fertilizer this could cause excess expansion and lead directly to fungus growth which should weaken your grass.

Weed Control

You've got to control the weeds. Controlling weeds in a brand new or pre-existing lawn is vital to the health and overall side of the grass. A gorgeous level grass gets the majority of its good looks from the fact that it is smooth where weeds are not notable and standing above the turf. You've probably mowed your lawn simply to have dandelions turning up over the grass a day later making it seem like you need to mow again. If the lawn has no weeds, certainly it holds good looks for a couple of days if the grass is at a uniform growing height.

Proper Mowing

Don't forget to properly mow. Cropping is the most puzzling part of lawn care, and the most frequently wrongly done part of lawn care. Far too many folk will set their mowers too low or “scalp” the turf. This leads directly to thin and dying out grass, shallow root systems, and in the long term, NO GRASS

. You've got to thatch. Thatching by employing a rack will remove dead grass which will smother and prevent new growth. It may appear initially you do more harm than not but if you don't break the thatch barrier new grass will not grow.

Watering

Your grass wishes watering. Water should be done each day in the hot months and rule of thumb is it is better to water deeply one in a while then to water shallow daily. Also remember you must water shortly after you lay down fertilizer.

Conclusion:

Follow these easy actions and you'll have a grass the whole community will envy. Good luck.

After you decide that you want a garden, your first choice is to select the right spot. In the event you don’t have much room, then you are limited in your choices, even to only having a box garden. Finding the perfect garden spot varies according to the amount of sunlight the area receives, with the best option being exposure from the south. Avoid installing your garden where it would receive exposure from the north unless it is your only option because this will severely hamper a success of your garden.

Using the southern location, where the sun sits warm all day, you should run the rows of vegetables north and south. Using this method, the east side of the plant life receives sun in the morning and the west side receives it in the afternoon. Utilizing this type of setup will prevent your plants from dipping more to one side. On the other hand, should your garden face southeast, you’ll want to be positive that your rows run northwest and southwest to get the most benefit from the sun.

What you need is for the sunlight to be spread evenly for the longest time possible. Without doubt you have seen the effects of what happens when plants don’t receive well distributed sunlight if you’ve looked at a window plant that lists more to one side than the other. Knowing where you will place your garden, sketch out a drawing of the place you want each plant to go. In the beginning, the dirt in your garden plot will most likely be concealed underneath sod or other debris. If your garden is going to be in a large space, you’ll want to plow the ground to turn the sod under; if your garden will definitely be in a smaller space, you can just get rid of the sod.

Place the the sod in one location where it can compost into fertilizer. During the summer of you can add green vegetable debris to your compost pile, and in the fall you can contribute your piles of raked leaves. This particular compost can all be used as fertilizer for the subsequent year. It’s essential to remove any large clumps from your garden location by sufficiently plowing the sod under. To be able to plant the seeds, the ground needs to be fine particles so the seeds can grow. Precisely what it takes so you can get your garden started is a spade, a hoe, and a rake.

The spade can rotate the garden soil to begin with, but it will leave too many clumps. Using the hoe will assist you to break up any remaining clumps and get rid of the weeds. If you use the spade you are required to work hard, but when it’s time to do work with the hoe and the rake you need to take a gentler approach. As soon as the hoe work is finished, you then use the rake to make the bed fine and smooth. When you’ve gotten all the preliminary work done, you can start planting seeds.

What makes repotting orchids a little bit complicated is that there are thousands of different orchid types that have all different life styles and require different conditions for repotting. It is not necessarily very different from repotting other plants, but the repotting time periods and the required type of potting medium are the main difference that will vary from one species to another. The list below gives an overview what to know to repot the most common types of orchids.

Cattleya is an orchid that needs repotting every year when it’s young and once at every two or three years when the plant becomes mature. Cattleya can be repotted at any time of the year, but the plant will recover faster if it is done right after the blooms fade or when new growth is emerging. The most used potting medium for a Cattleya is a medium grade fir bark.

You should try to repot a Vanda orchid as infrequently as possible for it does not like to be disturbed and could even stop blooming if it is repotted too often. This is why you should use a pot that will allow it to grow for at least three year. You can then repot the Vanda once every three years. It is recommended to use tree fern, lava rock or coarse grade as potting material since they drain readily. Not using a potting material will mean that you will have to water the plant more regularly.

Since Phalenopsis solely grows upwards and does not spread, you can repot in the same size pot. When it is younger and growing rapidly, the Phalenopsis orchid should be repotted once a year. When the plant becomes more mature, you can repot once every other year. For Phalenopsis, you should rely on medium grade orchid mixes as well as medium grade fir bark or sphagnum moss.

Dendrobium must be repotted every two years, preferably in spring after blooming. If the plant is smaller and kept in small pots then use fine grade fir bark as potting medium, and if the plant is bigger and held in larger pots then use medium grade bark. Some growers also use long-fibered sphagnum moss.

Paphiopediliums and Miltonia orchids do not like to be repotted. This is why you should only do it once every two or three years. Use fine or medium grade fir bark that contains additives like sphagnum moss and charcoal. You can also buy commercial terrestrial orchid mixtures. When you repot them, divide them into smaller divisions.

In specialty nurseries, you will be able to find commercial cymbidium planting mixes to repot your Cymbidiums. It can be repotted once every three years. The best time to do it is when the old blooms have fallen off if. Use fine orchid bark mix with 20 – 25 % perlite added. You can also buy medium or straight orchid bark.

Repotting orchids is not difficult if you know the needs of each individual plant and the right moment to do it.

Alan Stables is a keen gardener, and one of his specialities is <a href="http://www.ecaringfororchids.com/"target='_blank' class="extlink">caring for orchids. Given optimum environment conditions depending on the various <a href="http://www.orchidtypes.net/"target='_blank' class="extlink">orchid types , the correct orchid food, and the right amount of sunlight and water, you too will be able to grow beautiful orchids in no time.

There is a certain satisfaction to serving and eating food that you yourself have grown and harvested. These days you don’t need a plot of land to cultivate vegetables. Many vegetables lend themselves well to planters gardening. With some thought to selecting bush or dwarf varieties nearly every vegetable can be adapted to growing in the pot. Vegetables that use up little space such as carrots, radishes and lettuce, or crops that bear fruits for a long time like tomato plants and peppers are perfect for garden planters or containers. Everyone then can experience the many pleasures from the kitchen garden.

Selecting planters for the vegetable gardens could be just about anything: buckets, pails, flower pots, wooden boxes, window planters, or any number of other things. Make sure that the planter has drainage. No matter what kind of planters you choose for your vegetable garden it should have holes at the base or in the bottom to permit drainage of excess.

But of course your plants don’t thrive and produce vegetable container gardening can be really so expensive and frustrating. The following list of basic tips applies to most vegetables and will help you and your plants get off to a good start. When preparing the soil for your vegetable be sure to make some extra effort into preparing your beds before planting will save you a lot of time and effort in the future. Watering your vegetable is very important. Vegetables need a bit of extra care when it comes to watering. Regular watering will produce successful outcomes. For those who have a huge garden you may want to look at a soaker hose. This can ensure that your plants get an even watering without getting the leaves wet and all you need to do is remember to turn on the hose.

Most vegetables need full sun meaning a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight a day. You can easily overestimate how much sun an area really gets so either take out your watch and time how long the sun hits the spot where you want to put your vegetable container garden or make use of a sun calculator to have an exact not optimistic assessment. If you are living in a really hot zone you may have to shade your plants in the middle of the day so as not to fry them. Also it is best not to use metal containers or dark colored plastics or ceramics because they can heat up and cook your plant’s roots.

Choosing garden planters may be daunting. You can use just about anything for a garden planter as long as it is big enough and has good drainage. Bear in mind though that the bigger your container the easier it will be to maintain. The more soil a container can hold the more moisture it will retain. Do not bother with containers that are smaller than 12 inches and you’ll be much happier if they are at least 18″.

If growing plants is one of your favorite things to do, odds are that as the days and nights grow colder you long for the warm days of spring and summer. Usually as the start of fall comes it brings with it the close of the gardening season, unless of course the climate you live in is warm all through the whole year. How about planting some plants inside so you don’t have to wait for the spring season to come with its warm days? The sight of green plants growing indoors might be just what you need to help you ward off the gloom of winter.

How to Choose the Proper Plants to Put in Your Garden

There are many different plants you could successfully grow inside. If you do not have a “green thumb,” you may want to start off with some easy-to-grow houseplants, such as a philodendron, pothos or ivy. These plants can usually be grown very successfully, even if you do not have a great deal of indoor light. Although, if you wish to grow plants such as herbs, flowers or even vegetables indoors during the winter months, you’ll probably want to add a couple of specialized light fixtures. Although there are special “grow lights” you can buy which are specially designed to supply the light spectrum which plants thrive on, in most cases you will be able to effectively grow most plants using nothing more than common fluorescent light fixtures. Simply suspend a fluorescent light fixture from the ceiling over the table, and you will have the perfect place to grow a wide range of plants. Or, set up a collection of potted plants on a sunny kitchen or dining room windowsill.

Getting Good Use from Your House Plants

Depending on the kinds of plants you choose, there are a number of different ways you are able to utilize your indoor garden throughout the winter months. If you’re looking for some fresh ideas for things to present to your friends and family, you could choose a few household plants that could be split up and used as “starts” for growing new plants to give as gifts. Or, try pressing some of the flowers you grow indoors, which may be used to create interesting wall art when exhibited in picture frames. You could even have nice fresh spices and herbs to use for cooking all winter when you just grow some inside. You could even dry a few of your herbs to give as gifts, or use them to make fragrant potpourri mixtures or bath sachets. Lettuce and other salad greens for fresh salads are also easy to grow indoors, particularly in the cooler temperatures of the basement.

Adding A Few Decorative Details to Your Garden

If you’re one of those people who likes to set aside an entire room just for your winter indoor garden, then you may want to decorate that space in such a way that it really feels like a garden. Try displaying art prints depicting flowers or plant life on the walls by placing them in attractive picture frames. A water fountain may be an additional nice touch, but you should make sure it’s a little one that you may even be able to exhibit on a table. Add a comfortable chair and a good reading lamp, and you may discover that your new “garden room” will become your favorite spot to spend a snowy winter day.

So start right away on that charming indoor garden you’ve been dreaming of.
