Easter Lillies

Easter is a time which draws together so much of wonderful tradition- chocolate bunnies, decorating eggs, church services, Easter plays and gift baskets. It is of course challenging to draw a blank the custom of Easter lillies. We can find them at many indoor gardening in homes or outside e.g. planted for landscape edging decor and of course a lot of hydroponic gardening enthusiast includes lillies in their hobby hydro-garden as they signify hope, purity, grace and the marvel of life.

Lilies are important at Easter and they are appreciated for their lovely colors, forms and fragrances. So your best bet would be to preserve them as long as possible.

When keeping Easter lillies inside the home, make sure they are in a moderately cool environment, possibly around 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit, with slightly lower temperatures at night. It is an absolute essential to deflect the Easter lillies being discovered to high temperatures or hot air. Easter lilies appreciate indirect sunlight however, direct sunlight would simply kill it. When irrigating Easter lillies, as with all plants, make sure not to overwater them, but retain the soil moist, with clean draining.

Easter lillies also have a lot of significance in history. Lillies are often called the  white robed apostle of hope  and it is believed that on that point grew in the Garden of Gethsemane subsequently the events regarding Jesus Christ. Matching to custom it is thought that lillies started growing from places where Christ s sweat fell on the ground.

Lillies are native to some islands of Japan and the production of Easter lillies in America is trusted to have started when a WW1 soldier from Oregon by the name of Louis Houghton added household a suitcase of lily bulbs in 1919. Lilies were originally planted and shared among family and friends however, once their supply from Japan fell short they became renamed White Gold .

Reportable to the 2008 Annual report by the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, there have been efforts to genetically engineer Easter lillies to make them virus resistant and in turn improve the profits and reduce loss in the industry. 

Easter lilies are quite rare to find with it being sold for about only two weeks every year however, they rank at number 04 in USA’s potted plant crops.
